Aprajita Welfare Foundation was founded in 2012 when a group of compassionate individuals united with a shared vision of giving back to society. Their efforts were inspired by the philosophy of Peter Senge, a leading thinker in sustainable development and founder of the Society for Organizational Learning, who emphasized that “sustainability, social equality, and the environment are now business problems” and that corporate leaders cannot rely solely on government to address them.
This vision took root against the backdrop of India’s liberalized economy in the 1990s, which created vast new opportunities and transformed the nation into both a market and an investment hub for the global economy. Rising disposable incomes and financial stability became achievable for many within the middle class, enabling individuals to look beyond personal prosperity toward social responsibility. In this spirit, Aprajita Welfare Foundation was established to channel this newfound potential into transformative change, focusing on child development, education, and empowerment.
Aprajita Welfare Foundation is committed to empowering underprivileged children, youth, and women, with a primary focus on child education. Through relevant educational programs, innovative healthcare initiatives, and livelihood programs aligned with market needs, Aprajita Welfare Foundation aims to foster sustainable change at the grassroots level.
We employ the best methodologies and technologies to maximize our social return on investment (SROI) and uphold strong governance practices. Our approach also connects the competitive capabilities of the corporate sector with impactful social initiatives. Additionally, Aprajita Welfare Foundation works to engage and sensitize privileged children, youth, and citizens, promoting a culture of Civic-Driven Change for a more inclusive society.
At Aprajita Welfare Foundation, our commitment goes beyond immediate relief; we’re dedicated to creating lasting, positive change for underprivileged children and families. While we work directly on the ground to transform lives through child education, we also engage and inspire the privileged to fulfill their social responsibility, fostering a culture of shared commitment to sustainable development. Guided by our principle of Civic Driven Change, we believe that empowering civil society as active partners in every initiative paves the way for true, sustainable growth. Together, we’re making a brighter future possible for all.”
Social Venture Philanthropy (SVP) is an innovative model based on the business concept of venture capital. Under SVP, Smile Foundation identifies and implements its development projects through credible community based organizations. We also handhold and build capacities of these organizations, focusing on achieving scalability and sustainability, creating a culture of leadership and excellence and inculcating a deep sense of accountability among them.
Under the Outreach model, Smile Foundation implements the development interventions directly as it requires intensive and professional engagement for a wider and sustained outcome. While working in remote rural areas, we realized that an intensive on-ground intervention is needed, which might be beyond the capacity of community based organizations and hence, we directly implement such projects, liaising with local community stakeholders for better social return on investment.
